Falls Creek Regatta Cancelled
Published Thu 15 Jan 2026
Dear DBV members and Falls Creek Regatta attendees,
After consultation with local emergency agencies including SES, CFA and Alpine Resorts Victoria, the DBV Board has regretfully decided to cancel this year's Mile High Regatta in Falls Creek due to the ongoing presence of fire and smoke in the area. In addition, the forecast of high temperatures and moderate to high winds in the region at the back end of next week may fuel the existing fires north east of Falls Creek. The risk of further road closures, poor air quality and entering an existing fire zone heavily contributed to this decision.
In the interest of ensuring attendees, suppliers, vendors and other interested parties are provided with adequate notice, the decision has been made to err on the side of caution and keep everyone's safety front of mind in the process. We understand this is not the desired outcome and may cause some financial loss, however, DBV must prioritise the wellbeing of everyone involved and follow the advice of local authorities. Please contact DBV if you require any additional information to support a credit or refund with your accommodation or other bookings.
Despite the decision to cancel Falls Creek DBV is hoping to secure another venue closer to Melbourne to run a Regatta on Sunday January 25. We will notify you as soon as more information is available. Should this not be possible DBV will then aim to replace Falls Creek with another Regatta between LNY and the end of May to reduce lost racing opportunities. This event will be held closer to Melbourne as Falls Creek is not available on the March long weekend, and the added travel is best support by an extra day.
DBV wishes to thank its members for their patience and understanding. More information regarding the remainder of the Regatta season will be provided shortly.
