Welcome to the Firelight Festival at Docklands!
You’ll find a spectacular display of dragon boats on show and thrilling races taking place throughout the event. This is your chance to see the sport up close, meet passionate paddlers, and learn what makes dragon boating a unique and exciting experience.

At the Firelight Festival, you will:

View beautifully decorated boats on display
Watch live races as crews compete under the lights
Chat with club members and learn about their experiences

Dragon boating is a team paddling sport with roots in ancient Chinese traditions. Today, it’s a fast-growing, inclusive activity enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. Each boat is crewed by up to 20 paddlers, a drummer, and a sweep (steersperson), working together to power the boat across the water in exciting races.

Learn About Clubs:
Explore the range of Victorian dragon boat clubs—each offers regular paddling sessions, training, and social events for newcomers and experienced paddlers alike. Have a chat with any of the paddlers on site to discover more about the sport.
Join a Club or Take Up a Dragon Pass - it's a free, four week membership!
Interested in trying dragon boating? All clubs offer come and try sessions, called a Dragon Pass (it's a free, four week membership pass where you can try the sport at any club in Australia). This pass lets you experience the sport before joining. Simply click here and select the club you'd like to attend.
