DBV President Heather Watts has penned her latest Presidents Report summarising recent DBV activities and casting an eye to upcoming events on the calendar. |
Carrum:
Thank you to everyone who submitted a feedback survey. DBV greatly appreciates the input of its members and uses this information to refine regatta delivery. Carrum results are now available on the DBV website - here.
Ballarat:
As a reminder, crew entries close at 11.59pm on Wednesday 24 September. Crew lists must be entered 48 hours prior, with changes allowed up until 6am on the day. Clubs wishing to borrow paddlers from other clubs should submit their request using the Crew Request Form.
Keep your eye on the Event Page for up to date information.
N.B Daylight Saving starts on Sunday 5 October with clocks going forward by 1 hour.
Australian Corporate Games (ACG):
DBV is supporting the Australian Corporate Games Regatta on Saturday 15 November. The Regatta is being held on the Maribyrnong River outside Footscary Rowing Club. With input from the Regatta Organising Group (RAG), DBV will be running Open Age 10s, Open Age 20s, BCP and ACP categories.
Registration fees will be lower than usual, to reflect a smaller racing schedule.
At this stage the intention is to race the Open Age categories in the morning, and then BCP and ACP amongst the Corporate Games event, in the afternoon. Further detail including specific categories will be uploaded and communicated, shortly. But for now, please SAVE THE DATE.
Australian Cross Boarder Championships (ACBC):
Planning for the ACBC on 22 and 23 November is well underway. The event at Gateway Lakes, Wodonga, is open to DBV members and those outside of DBV to enter. Registration information will be shared in the coming days, and we look forward to a bumper Regatta. |
AusDBF Rules of Racing & DBV By-Laws Information Session |
DBV is holding a short yet informative Zoom meeting on the AusDBF Rules of Racing, and DBV By-Laws. Hosted by Philippa McLean the session will focus on how the Rules of Racing and By-Laws compliment each other, and where they differ. The session is open to all of DBV, not just Officials and Volunteers.
So if you're keen to learn more about the rules which govern the sport, head to the Event Page for further details and the Zoom link. The session is at 8pm on 1 October.
AusDBF Rules Tip: Did you know that Women’s and Mixed Crews may use male or female sweeps or drummers without the need for dispensation? |
Working With Children Check and Safe365 |
As an ongoing reminder, Clubs must be aware of their obligations to obtain a WWCC for all people holding formal roles such as President, Coach, Committee Member etc. Please visit the below links for further information.
Apply for a WWCC - free and can be done online
Who Requires a Check
Exemptions from a WWCC
Once you obtain your WWCC, the club should email Paul@dragonboatvictoria.com.au with copies so the accreditation can be added to your RevSport profile.
Thank you to those Clubs who have downloaded and commenced using the Safe365 app. If you aren't currently using the app, please reach out to Paul and provide a list of names + email addresses to receive an invitation. This is a critical step in helping to provide a safe paddling environment, as well as capturing key details in the event of an incident and potential insurance claim. All Clubs should be utilising the app as part of their daily practice and the Sweep would already be doing a mental observation of the required information. The app simply formalises this process and keeps a record. |
AusDBF Diversity & Inclusion Committee |
Have an interest in Diversity and Inclusion? AusDBF are looking for a second DBV representative to join current Board Member Caroline Mulcahy on the D&I Committee. The responsibilities will be shared with Caroline as to reduce the time commitment. If interested, please contact Caroline@dragonboatvictoria.com.au.
For further information download the D&I Charter here or visit the AusDBF Participation Hub. |
Corporate, Community and School Events |
As discussed at the most recent President Meeting, and following feedback received by Clubs, DBV has finalised the process for Corporate, Community and School events.
A reminder that all events of this nature must be captured and managed in RevSport for insurance purposes and to support membership data which contributes to Australian Sports Commission issued funding for our Sport.
DBV has created a Corporate, Community and School Event page on the website and provides the necessary forms to outline the steps involved when engaging with, or being approached by a community group. If you have any further questions about this process, please contact Paul Orgad and Steve Arrowsmith. |
VIC26 Head Coach Kathryn Sanford and Campaign Manager Gabriela Bodnarova have provided the following update. DBV encourages all members to read the letter.
