| Footscray Rowing Club Update |
As you may be aware, DBV took out a lease at the Footscray Rowing Club 18-months ago as part of the planning for a second hub. During that time the Footscray Falcons Dragon Boat Club was established and has grown to around 80-members. Earlier this year, the Rowing Club advised DBV that its lease would not be renewed beyond 31 August, 2026. DBV and Footscray Falcons DB Club attempted to negotiate with the Rowing Club and sought input from Maribyrnong City Council to remain a tenant as access to the Rowing Club had proven to be vital to DBV's storage needs and regattas. Unfortunately, being able to meet our requirements as DBV, or for Footscray Falcons to be accommodated, was not achievable.
Council have been extremely supportive and facilitated multiple discussions between the clubs involved, however, we were required to vacate the premises by the end date of the lease and will continue to work with them to identify a more permanent location.
Current state
Footscray Falcons have been provided with a secure compound to store boats and other equipment required for training beside the existing Rowing Club.DBV is considering long-term storage options and will negotiate directly with Council about any lease arrangements. Footscray has also generously arranged some storage for DBV equipment with one of their members in the interim.
DBV will continue to liaise with Footscray Falcons, Council and other Footscray Rowing Club stakeholders on future arrangements and opportunities.
Regattas as scheduled DBV is in discussion with Maribyrnong Council regarding the upcoming regatta in November and access to the Rowing Club facilities, however, the regatta will proceed as our use of the river is already approved and permitted by Parks Victoria. |
