Regatta Advisory Group (RAG)

Who We Are and What We Do

The Regatta Advisory Group (RAG) is a Committee who reports and makes recommendations to the DBV Board. The Committee meets monthly with regular informal communication in bewteen. The Committee is made up of the following DBV Members, who have knowledge of and are committed to improving the experience for Paddlers, Sweeps, Coaches and Officials:

Zonda Lynn (Chair)

Gavin James

Donna Meadows

Heather Watts

Paul Orgad

This Committee is responsible for:

  • Reviewing the calendar of events/regattas
  • Determining regatta locations and exploring new venues
  • Determining race distances/categories, ensuring there is a full complement of mixed, opens, womens and inclusion of scheduling for Cancer paddlers
  • Ensuring a range of distances are covered across the season, taking into account training methods and preparation for VicChamps and AusChamps
  • Facilitating participation at all levels for all clubs across Victoria
  • Ensuring course set up and layout adhere to rules of racing, by-laws and local needs
  • Developing the race draws for each regatta
  • Recommending changes to the DBV By-Laws
  • Post regatta debrief and ensure feedback from surveys is noted and acted upon
  • Working closely with the DBV Board
  • Maintaining a good working relationship with AusDBF

One of RAG's key roles is to ensure a balanced mixed of racing lengths and styles, to appeal to everyone's preferences at some stage during the season. This isn't always possible, but the intent is to create an enjoyable variation over the course of a season. If you have any suggestions or feedback, not only do we welcome EOI's to join RAG but please feel free to contact any of the above members at any stage.

As you know the weather is unpredictable and sometimes we have to cancel or postpone a regatta due to 30+ km winds, lightening, etc. Where we can, we will reschedule. However, sometimes this is not possible as we need at least twelve weeks’ notice to obtain the permits required to run a regatta from Parks Vic, Councils, Water ways etc. Sometimes our regattas go ahead in trying conditions but it’s neccessary to prioritise safety.
